Dublin, Ireland – Bono and Edge performed the first live rendition of Love is all we have left today at the Funeral of former promoter Dave Kavanagh in Dublin. Kavanagh passed away after a battle with cancer in Blackrock, Dublin, last Friday. Gavin Friday and Eve Hewson were also among the congregants at St. Mary’s Church, Dublin. Kavanagh, in addition to promoting U2, also promoted other well known Irish acts of the 1970’s and 1980’s, including the Boomtown Rats and Thin Lizzy. He later became a manager for Clannad and Celtic Women. Among his biggest contributions to the history of U2 was his introducing Bono to Clannad lead singer Moya Brennan, and subsequently suggesting that Bono perform the male lyric for Clannad’s In a lifetime. In a poignant moment at today’s funeral, popular crossover act The High Kings, who said they wouldn’t exist without Kavanagh’s vision, performed their hit version of the traditional Irish funeral dirge The Parting Glass as the coffin exited the cathedral.
