U2 supported Kendrick Lamar’s plaudit-earning opening to the 60th Grammy awards, then later performed Get out of your own way in a pre-recorded segment from a barge on the Hudson River in front of the Statue of Liberty. The Kendrick Lamar segment featured Bono and Edge briefly on stage as Bono sang Its not a place, this country is to me a thought that offers grace to every welcome that is sought. The U2 segment began with a reading of Emma Lazarus’ famous poem “Colossus” which is inscribed at the base of the Statue of Liberty and includes the famous line “Give me your tired, your weary, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” The entire band then performed from the barge on the Hudson, with Bono once again making use of the now-familiar megaphone.
Bono and Edge stuck around to present Bruno Mars the Grammy for Album of the year.
After the performance, U2 tweeted:” Blessed are the Shithole Countries, for they gave us the American Dream”
The bands official YouTube page has a video of the segment already online: U2 Get our of your own way at the 60th Grammy Awards
